Meet Dr. Dana Veis at Marston Orthodontics

Get to know Dr. Dana Veis, a board-certified orthodontist, San Diego native and true believer in the art and science of a great smile. She cares for patients alongside Dr. Blake Marston at our Rancho Peñasquitos office, where families appreciate her warm, thorough approach.

A San Diego native, back home

Dr. Veis was born and raised in San Diego. She went to college in Santa Barbara, where she met her husband, Landon. Her training later took her across the country to Kentucky, where she enjoyed the changing seasons and the beauty of bluegrass country. In the end, sunny San Diego called her home, and we’re so glad it did.

How a dental assistant job sparked a career

Here’s a fun fact: Dr. Veis didn’t just study orthodontics, she saw it up close first. While in college, she worked as a registered dental assistant and earned her RDA license. Spending her days chairside showed her what orthodontics can do for a person’s health and confidence. That hands-on experience is how she discovered she wanted to become an orthodontist specifically.

It also gives her a special appreciation for every member of our clinical team. She knows firsthand what goes into a smooth, comfortable appointment.

Education and advanced training

Dr. Veis completed her dental and orthodontic education at the University of Kentucky, where she earned:

• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
• Specialty training in orthodontics through her orthodontic residency
• Master of Science (MS) in Orthodontics. Her master’s research focused on 3D mandibular superimpositions. In plain terms, that means overlaying 3D images of the lower jaw taken at different times to measure exactly how it grows and changes during treatment.
• An additional year of advanced education in craniofacial biology. During this year, she studied a range of craniofacial syndromes and their orthodontic implications, and took part in genetics research.

That extra year matters for patients. It gives Dr. Veis a deeper understanding of how the face, jaws and teeth develop together, which is especially valuable when planning care for growing children and for more complex cases.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics

In September 2025, Dr. Veis passed her examination with the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Board certification is voluntary. It goes beyond the training every orthodontist needs to practice and requires a rigorous examination of clinical knowledge and judgment. For patients, it is a clear sign of a commitment to the highest standard of care.

A passion for facial esthetics and jaw comfort

Dr. Veis loves designing smiles that fit the whole face, not just straight teeth. She has a particular passion for facial esthetics and facial harmony. To deepen that expertise, she earned certificates from MEDAesthetics in botulinum toxins and dermal fillers and in advanced facial esthetics.

This training sharpens her eye for how lips, cheeks and facial proportions frame a smile. The result is treatment planning that considers how your smile will look when you talk, laugh and live your life.

We also offer Botox for TMD-related concerns, such as jaw tension, clenching or facial muscle soreness. By relaxing overactive jaw muscles, Botox may ease discomfort for some patients. We’ll help you decide whether it’s a good fit during your consultation.

Outside the office

When she’s not creating smiles, Dr. Veis loves spending time with Landon and their two daughters. Their home is never quiet, thanks to three dogs and three cats. She enjoys CrossFit, traveling, exploring San Diego’s food scene and spending beach days with her family.
